在重要人物人名的英译中，还有贾府丫环“鸳鸯”和“紫鹃”最值得一提。汉译英，任命意译时，大有文章可做， 译者必须懂得专业知识，包括对动植物的特征，黄译的“鸳鸯”是 Lovebird而不译为 Mandarin duck。这与 霍克斯译的不谋而合。“鸳鸯”一般都译为 Mandarin duck，几乎随处可见。吴景荣先生主编的汉英词典，也是 这样译的。但 Mandarin duck 是一种普通水禽，没有表达出鸳鸯成对，相亲相爱之意，而 Lovebird 从字面上 看，就是“爱之鸟”的意思，能够充分表达出鸳鸯相亲相爱成双飞之意。
