MyKad

Malaysia’s primary document or instrument for personal identification is the national identity card. This document is vitally important to the individual as it is used in virtually all inter-personal transactions. All citizens are required to apply for and carry their identity card from the age of 12.

The latest incarnation of national identity card is the MyKad, a microchip-based smartcard which securely stores various types of information for personal identification.Malaysians are required to apply for their MyKads by the end of 2005.

Applications may be made at offices of the National Registration Department.

After a long procrastination, I finally went to National Registration Department today to apply for MyKad.

Reached there around 10.00 am, 4 words to describe the crowd there – people mountain people sea.

I went to information counter to get my queue ticket.

Me: “Cik, saya nak apply MyKad.”

Officer A: “OK, ambik ticket ni, datang balik selepas pukul 2.45 petang.”

Me:

Fine, I went to have bah kut teh, bought a few books, had massage, and then went back to Registration Department again at 2.45pm.

Me: “Cik, saya nak renew IC.”

Officer B: “Eh?! Rambut awak ada color, tak boleh renew. Awak kena tukar warna rambut ke warna hitam baru boleh renew IC. OK, datang balik minggu depan.”

Me:

Fine! I will come back again 3 months later when my hair colour become black again.
