Interview with Nazri Aziz: The video clip, the walk, the panel

ANIZA DAMIS
New Straits Times

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, who is the de-facto law minister, talks to ANIZA DAMIS about the controversial video clip, the judiciary, the Bar Council and bloggers

Q: Is there a crisis in the judiciary? Why is there a perception of there being one?

A: There isn’t a crisis. It’s a false allegation.

The perception has been created by some people. When I go back to my constituency, nobody talks about it.

When people do not go to the courts to settle their disputes, that’s when there’s a crisis. But I don’t see that.

The few people who are unhappy, make a lot of noise. It is reported, people read, and think there is a crisis.

Crisis means it involves the whole country but nobody talks about it. I even asked my fellow members of parliament (MP) but nobody talks about it. So, what crisis are we talking about?

The crisis is in the minds of those who created it.

Q: Some 1,000-2,000 lawyers were involved in the Bar Council walk. Are you saying that that many lawyers have been misled?

A: Only 1,000 went to the ground. There are 13,000 registered members of the Bar.

Q: You don’t think 1,000 is enough?

A: 1,000 of 13,000 — is that a majority? What’s the big deal?

In a democracy, the minority cannot control the majority. The minority does not speak for the majority.

My goodness! Nazri contradicts himself so much throughout this interview and it nearly made me go insane.

Dear Nazri, DO YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT THE FUCK YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT? THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK!

“OK, It Tis Eee-zy”

I got Ubuntu 7.10 newly installed on my laptop last weekend and I am extremely happy with the performance of this new version of Ubuntu compared to Windows Vista. OK, cut the crap. I was looking for some information on how I can convert video format on Ubuntu and then I found this YouTube video clip, this guy from Croatia is indeed very enthusiastic about sharing his finding with others but err… his accent sounds so funny to me (and perhaps to you, too).

On The Nalanda Trail: Buddhism in India, China and Southeast Asia

Buddha

Event: On The Nalanda Trail: Buddhism in India, China and Southeast Asia
Date: 02 Nov 2007 - 23 Mar 2008
Venue: Special Exhibitions Gallery, ACM Empress Place

During the past, many Asian countries interacted with each other through peaceful means via religion, trade and political missions. Many Chinese pilgrims went to India for Buddhist studies while Indian monks went to China to disseminate the faith. The footprints of Buddhist pilgrims can be seen over the Silk Road all along Central, northwest India as well as the Southeast Asia. Traversing India to modern Pakistan, Afghanistan, Central Asia, Tibet, China, Korea and Japan, Java, Sumatra, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos - Buddhism not only affected the lives and cultures in those regions but also left us with a legacy in the arts and literature.

This exhibition will highlight some of the significant landmarks in Buddhist history, through the travel records of the monks Faxian, Xuanzang, Yijing and the spread of Buddhism at centres of higher learning such as Nalanda in eastern India which was visited by many students from all over the Asian world. The exhibition will be illustrated and accompanied by a display of Buddhist art and artefacts borrowed from museums in India and Southeast Asia and will include some objects from the ACM’s own collection.
